The Camden County Police Department renewed its tradition of hosting summer carnival-style events recently when it staged a Metro Fun Night at Alberta Woods Park in East Camden on Friday, Aug. 16.

The department has hosted these types of large summer events since its inception in 2013, but this year marked the first time for an animal/petting zoo theme for the event. Kids and adults alike were able to get up close and enjoy a variety of animals including rabbits, goats, pigs and chickens. And of course, there were pony rides through the middle of the park that ended up being the star attraction of the event.

“Kids love the animals and this was something I really wanted to do and the chief really wanted to do to put a new twist on these events. It was great and you can really see how the kids react, how happy they are getting to see the animals up close and touch them,” said Captain Vivian Coley.

In addition to all the animals, the event featured the usual mix of carnival games, music, inflatable play areas, train rides, face painting, prizes and Mr. Softee. The weather was perfect and the event was extremely well attended with well over 1,000 kids and adults in attendance over the course of three hours.
