This week, the Camden County Police Department recognizes the excellent work of Officer Matthew Wilson.
Officer Wilson joined the Camden County Police Department in 2013. He serves in the Patrol Division in the city’s 2nd District.
On the afternoon of March 1, Officer Wilson responded to the area of 7th and Mount Vernon streets to investigate a report about a male who was under the influence and brandishing a gun. After arriving on the scene, Officer Wilson was able to quickly locate a resident who directed him toward the suspect. Officer Wilson then observed that the suspect, a male who he recognized from the neighborhood. Officer Wilson observed that the suspect was acting erratically and was holding a gun. Officer Wilson was then able to approach the suspect and, using restraint, take the gun – a .45 caliber Cobray revolver – out of the suspect’s hand and then place the suspect under arrest without incident.
“Officer Wilson showed poise and restraint in dealing with this armed individual and ensuring that he was safely apprehended,” said Lt. William Wiley.
For his intelligent and tactful work to make the city safer, we honor Officer Wilson as Camden County Police Department Officer of the Week.
