Halloween safety tips

Posted on by CCPD

Keep your children safe this Halloween by taking the following precautions:

  • Remind children not to enter strangers’ homes.
  • Know the route kids will take when trick-or-treating and have them stick to it.
  • Set rules about not eating treats until home; inspect kids’ treats before they eat any. Throw away treats that have been opened. Look closely at any homemade treats.
  • Give kids flashlights and remind them to stick to sidewalks. Drivers have a hard time seeing pedestrians at dusk.
  • Make kids never cross a street by walking out from between parked cars.
  • Be sure costumes are safe.
  • Have kids be careful about getting too close to jack-o-lanterns with open flames that can set costumes on fire.
  • In Camden, the CCPD recommends trick-or-treating between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Curfew for minors is 10 p.m.
